How do I search?
Basic Search Tips
Using the search bar (available on the top right-hand area of every page), type in one or more keywords relevant to your search.
To find content matching all of the keywords in your search, separate keywords using AND.
For example: for images of Paris in winter, search Paris AND winter
To find content matching any of the keywords in your search, separate keywords using OR.
For example: for images of the Arc de Triomphe or the Eiffel Tower (not within the same image), search Arc de Triomphe OR Eiffel Tower
To exclude undesired content, separate keywords using NOT.
For example: for images of Paris but not of the Eiffel Tower, search Paris NOT Eiffel Tower
To find content matching keywords exactly, place the search term in speech marks.
For example: for images of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel specifically, excluding images of the Arc de Triomphe, search "Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel"
Combine the above operators using parentheses to group search terms to perform more specific searches.
For example: (PARIS AND "ARC DE TRIOMPHE") NOT "ARC DE TRIOMPHE DU CARROUSEL"
Use % to search for content with varying suffixes.
For example: searching duck% will locate media of one or more ducks as well as images of people ducking
Advanced Search
You may use the Advanced Search function to conduct searches:
By Media - Search for specific types of media, including the following:
- All media
- Graphics
- Images
- Slideshows
- Interactives
- Video
- Audio
- Cartoons
By Field - Search for images by specific metadata fields, including the following:
- All fields
- Byline (Photographer name)
- Caption
- Category
- City
- Credit (i.e. provider: AAP IMAGE/PR IMAGE/AP/AFP/EPA/PA)
- Country
- Country code
- Created date
- Headline
- Gallery
- Keywords
- Trans Ref
- Object Name
- Source
- Submit date
By Date - Use one of the provided presets to search for media based on the submitted date, or enter a custom date range.
Search within results
If your initial search has yields too many results, check the "Within results" checkbox and type one or more keywords to search within that initial selection.

How are search results displayed?
Our system will display results chronologically based on the date they were submitted to the archive.
The AAP ONE site gives you the option to customise your results layout.
SLIDESHOW VIEW - this view displays the images in a slideshow format. To navigate simply click on the thumbnail you would like to see and this will be enlarged and displayed along with the corresponding caption. Use the arrows to scroll through the available images within the search.
GRID VIEW - this is the default view which will displays thumbnails in grid format. You have the option to choose the number of images displayed in each row.
TEXT VIEW - will display thumbnails with the caption alongside the photo. The top of the search page tells you how many pages have been found and which page is currently displayed. To toggle between the available results pages, click on the arrows to go back or forward, or simply type in the page number in the box available and click GO. This will take you to the relevant page of results.
Image Display Actions
Multimedia thumbnails can be clicked to open a new window with a larger preview of the image and the caption below.
CAPTION - this link will open the preview window of the image with the caption below.
DOWNLOAD - this link will initiate the download process.
ADD TO LIGHTBOX - this link will add the image to the current Lightbox selected

What are lightboxes?
Lightboxes are unique to each user and allow you to collect your selections when researching before downloading images. Lightboxes are only available to registered users.
If you haven’t registered, you can register here
ADDING IMAGES TO A LIGHTBOX - once logged in, you can add an image from your search results by clicking on the «Add to Lightbox» link under the image. The image will be placed in the currently-selected lightbox.
OPENING A LIGHTBOX - the lightbox menu appears on the top of all search pages. To open a lightbox, select the lightbox you wish to open in the drop down menu, then click on the button «Open Selected Lightbox» to confirm your selection.
CREATING A LIGHTBOX - in the lightbox menu, type the name of your new lightbox in the «Create New Lightbox» field and click on the button «Add to Lightbox>> to confirm your selection. To add images to this Lightbox, ensure it is selected in the Lightbox window above.
DELETING A LIGHTBOX - Open the required Lightbox following the steps above. Select your Lightbox name in the Delete Lightbox menu, then click on the button «Delete».
REMOVING IMAGES FROM A LIGHTBOX – click on the empty box next to the images you wish to remove, then click on «Remove Selected» to confirm the deletion.
EMAIL A LIGHTBOX - to email a lightbox to yourself or colleague, simply type in the email address of the recipient and hit «SEND». An email containing your selected lightbox images will be generated and sent to the specified recipient.

How do I download images?
This can be done from the Search Results page, the larger image preview pop-up or from the Lightbox.
DOWNLOAD - click the «Download» button below the image in either of these pages and the download process will be initiated. A pop up window will appear confirming that this is the image you would like to download. Click «Download» to proceed. Please note the abiity to download is only available when logged in.

FAQs
1. How do I purchase an AAP photo?
Pricing varies depending on the license/s required and at what size the image will be used. If you are not an account holder and would like to purchase an image or establish an account with AAP ONE, please register on our website or call us on 02 9322 8708.
2 . Can I cancel an image order after I have purchased it?
Yes, you may cancel an image order provided that you notify AAP ONE within 7 days after receiving the Publication Notice otherwise you must pay AAP a cancellation fee of 50% of the Fees payable in respect of the image or images.
3. How can I contact AAP?
Our teams are available 7 days a week during the following hours:
7.30am to 11.00pm (AEST) MONDAY TO FRIDAY
3.00pm to 11.00pm (AEST) SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

5. I forgot my username/password?
If you've forgotten either of your log-in details please click on the "Forgot Password" link above the search box on the AAP ONE website. This will prompt you to input your email address to which your details will then be sent immediately.
